My father is the biggest skeptic I know.
When I began learning Bowen Therapy he didn’t believe in it, couldn’t see how it would possibly work UNTIL he was desperate and couldn’t walk up the stairs. I remember him saying Liz, can you do something on my knees to help me get up the stairs (he could barely walk). I placed a few Bowen moves on his knees, and up he went.
Recently, on my return from my yoga retreat he said Liz, is there anything you can do for my knee. I twisted it getting out of the car, and it’s swollen. I’ve iced it but the swelling is still there. I told him to use soda crystals, and leave them on over night.
The next morning, he woke up and the swelling had gone. He said to me, I truly didn’t believe they would work (he even had to tell a friend of mine the effectiveness of them)!
How did I learn about soda crystals?
I first learnt about soda crystals when I started my Bowen Therapy journey. Prior to this, when it came to reducing swelling, I would always turn to ice packs. Ice is a great tool for swelling, inflammation and pain, and is beneficial for acute injuries. However, the more I treat people with chronic joint conditions I see how soda crystals in conjunction with Bowen Therapy can benefit them.
What are soda crystals?
Soda crystals are made from sodium carbonate. They are beneficial to help reduce swelling and relieve aching muscles.
What can soda crystals be used for?
- Reduce swelling
- Recover from exercise or strenuous activity
- Relieve tired and aching muscles
- Recover from sporting injuries
- Assist with arthritis
- Assist with bursitis
- Assist with joint problems
- Relieve swollen & sore feet
My experience with soda crystals
After having 2 knee operations, my knee occasionally swells (especially if I have overdone it, or when doing things on impact such as running on concrete). I place the soda crystals in a tea towel and wrap it around my leg, just under the swelling and leave it on overnight. In the morning, the soda crystals solidify drawing out the fluid, and reduce the swelling immensely.
Clients who have used soda crystals alongside Bowen Therapy have also seen results. A client with bursitis said when using the soda crystals, her pain in the shoulder completely subsided and her range of movement improved.
