Part 1

Fifth Bowen Therapy treatment and its results

The client felt her shoulder was getting better; she can now extend her shoulder back and take the garbage bin out, but is still struggling to move her arm behind her back when trying to do her bra up. Arm abduction is 165o.

Today’s treatment was similar to the previous session with the addition of the shoulder moves. Like in previous sessions, she felt sensations of cold in the arms, and her body felt cold, whereby she was shivering.

Sixth Bowen Therapy treatment and its results

We spaced out the treatment for 2 weeks. During this time, client felt good but she could start to ‘feel the shoulder’. It was worse when she bent her elbow, but her arm now abducts to 175o. The client also had some scans done and there was a tear in the supraspinatus tendon.

Today’s treatment included lower back, upper back, and neck work with the addition of the teres mj (a muscle of the rotator cuff). Again, the client felt lots of coldness in the arm.

Seventh Bowen Therapy treatment and its results

Client felt progression had slowed down (treatment 2 weeks later) and felt this was due to the tear in the supraspinatus tendon.

Today’s session included a balancing and specific work on her triceps. Again, coldness was felt throughout her arm, back, and shoulders.

Eighth Bowen Therapy treatment and its results

2 weeks later, she felt her shoulder was feeling a little better, but was worse when she slept incorrectly on her left shoulder.

Today’s session included working on the elbow and like in previous sessions she felt coldness throughout her left arm.

Ninth (final) Bowen Therapy treatment and its results

One month later, my client has full ROM (180o) in her shoulder, but is aware of it when doing certain movements.

Today’s focus was trying to release the shoulder to stop it from catching. Today, she felt warmth in her left forearm, elbow and scapula, and coldness in the arm.

Conclusion

Bowen Therapy was a great success with this client, we were able to improve the function and ROM in her shoulder despite having a tear in the supraspinatus tendon.
